Unplugged Coding Training: Innovative Strategies to Enhance Early Childhood Numeracy Literacy.
The Early Childhood Teacher Education Study Program (PG-PAUD) at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) recently organized a Community Engagement (PkM) activity titled, "Unplugged Coding Training: Innovative Strategies to Enhance Early Childhood Numeracy Literacy" in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This initiative aimed to equip PAUD teachers with the skills to integrate simple coding concepts without digital devices (unplugged coding) into daily learning. This innovative approach seeks to boost literacy and numeracy in young children.
The training featured two main speakers, Novi Anggraeni, M.Pd., and Budi Rachman, M.Pd., who guided participants in understanding the basic concepts of computational programming through concrete, offline activities such as role-playing, directional puzzles, and creating logical instructions. During her session, Novi stated, "Unplugged coding not only introduces logical thinking but also sharpens numeracy and literacy skills through fun and active experiences." Budi Rachman added, "Children can learn to think systematically and solve problems in a very natural way through play."
This activity was chaired by Dr. Kartika Rinakit Adhe, M.Pd., with Novi Anggraeni, M.Pd., and Budi Rachman, M.Pd. serving as both members and speakers. The PAUD teachers who participated in the training were very enthusiastic about the activity. They found the material presented broadened their understanding of learning innovations suitable for today's children. One participant stated, "We just learned that coding concepts can be taught to early childhood children without..." (The original text ends abruptly here).
