Teaching Practitioner: Storytelling in Early Childhood Education
Early Childhood Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Study Program of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) organized a Teaching Practitioner activity as part of the Storytelling course. This activity aimed to enhance students’ storytelling skills as an essential component of early childhood learning.
The session featured Endang Mustikowati, an Early Childhood Education teacher at TK Labschool UNESA 1, as the guest speaker. The practitioner shared experiences and techniques related to effective storytelling for young children.
During the session, students learned various storytelling strategies, including voice expression, body movement, use of props, and media to engage children. The speaker emphasized storytelling as a powerful tool to support language development, imagination, emotional expression, and moral values in early childhood education.
Through this Teaching Practitioner activity, students gained practical experience and inspiration to develop creative storytelling approaches in classroom learning. The interactive session encouraged students to practice and reflect on their storytelling abilities.
The activity is expected to strengthen students’ pedagogical skills and prepare them to use storytelling effectively as part of early childhood learning.
