Environmental Education Project Inspires Young Learners
A group of teachers in Semarang has initiated an environmental education project called “Green PAUD.” The program encourages children to care for nature through daily activities such as gardening, recycling, and tree planting. It aims to build environmental awareness early, shaping responsible habits for future generations.
Children take part in planting vegetables and flowers in small pots, learning how sunlight, water, and soil help plants grow. Teachers use these gardening activities to teach science concepts like growth cycles and sustainability. Students are also encouraged to water plants every morning, fostering a sense of responsibility and routine.
Recycling projects are another major focus. Children collect used bottles, papers, and boxes, then transform them into creative crafts. This not only enhances fine motor skills but also shows that waste can be turned into something beautiful and useful. Teachers remind students about the importance of reducing plastic use in their daily lives.
Parents are invited to join “Green Days,” where families plant trees or clean the school environment together. These community-based activities strengthen environmental values beyond the classroom. Teachers often share simple eco-friendly tips, like using reusable bottles and bringing cloth bags for shopping.
The project has made a visible impact—cleaner surroundings, happier children, and a more conscious school community. By starting small, PAUD teachers prove that environmental education can be both fun and meaningful. The seeds of awareness planted today will hopefully grow into a greener tomorrow.
