Challenges of Modern Parenting Amid Technological Advancements in Indonesia
Amid the rapid growth of digital technology, parenting issues in Indonesia have become increasingly complex. Many parents today face the dilemma of allowing their children to access technology freely while maintaining a balance in their emotional and social development. The phenomenon of excessive screen time has become a serious concern, especially as many young children are now more familiar with gadgets than with direct interaction in their surroundings. This situation raises worries about the decline of children’s abilities in communication, empathy, and social adaptation.
Furthermore, the generational gap in understanding between parents and children presents a new challenge in modern parenting. Many parents still lack sufficient digital literacy to properly guide their children in navigating the online world. This gap increases the risk of negative behaviors such as internet addiction and exposure to age-inappropriate content. In response, the government and educational institutions are promoting digital parenting education programs to help parents develop healthy and adaptive parenting strategies in the modern era. Through these efforts, it is hoped that Indonesian children can grow into intelligent, resilient, and strong-charactered individuals amid the tides of global technological advancement.
