On Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a volunteer teaching activity was conducted as part of a learning assistance program for children. The session was designed to introduce basic mathematical concepts through interactive and enjoyable activities that encouraged active participation from all learners.
The activity began with an introduction session between the volunteers and the children. The volunteers introduced themselves as the older siblings who would guide the learning process, while the children were given the opportunity to introduce themselves to their peers and facilitators. This session helped create a friendly and comfortable learning environment before the main activities began.
The program then continued with a market-themed role-play activity. The children participated in a traditional snack market simulation where they acted as buyers and sellers. Toy money was used as a medium of exchange, allowing the children to experience simple buying and selling transactions in a fun and meaningful way.
After successfully completing the buying and selling game, the children received star stickers as rewards for their participation and effort. The reward system encouraged enthusiasm, motivation, and active engagement throughout the learning process.
Following the role-play activity, the children worked on learning exercises related to addition and subtraction involving money values. The worksheets and activities were designed to help children understand basic numeracy concepts while applying them to real-life situations. Through these exercises, the children practiced calculating prices, making simple transactions, and determining totals and differences in monetary amounts.
After a short break, the session resumed with an ice-breaking activity to restore the children’s energy and enthusiasm. The ice breaker included fun movements and interactive games that helped create a positive and lively atmosphere.
The children then returned to the traditional market simulation and continued practicing buying and selling activities using the toy money. This repetition allowed them to strengthen their understanding of addition and subtraction concepts while enjoying the learning process through hands-on experiences.
At the end of the session, the volunteers conducted a learning evaluation to assess the children’s understanding of the material presented during the activity. The children were encouraged to share their experiences and demonstrate what they had learned throughout the lesson.
The activity concluded with a closing prayer before everyone said goodbye and returned home. Overall, the learning session was carried out successfully and created an enjoyable educational experience. Through the traditional market role-play activity, the children were able to develop their numeracy skills, communication abilities, confidence, and social interaction while learning in a fun and engaging environment.
