Learning About Emotions and Expressions Through Interactive Activities at LKTD Karya Kasih Putra
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, students from the Early Childhood Teacher Education Program (PG PAUD) conducted a teaching activity at LKTD Karya Kasih Putra, located at Jl. Dupak Bandarejo No. 4. This activity was carried out as a form of community service and teaching practice for university students while also helping children understand expressions and emotions in their daily lives.
The activity began with an introduction session between the PG PAUD students and the children. During this stage, the university students introduced themselves, shared information about their university, and engaged the children in light conversations to create a warm, comfortable, and enjoyable learning atmosphere. The children showed great enthusiasm and actively participated in communication throughout the introduction session.
Following the introduction, the activity continued with a lesson on different types of expressions and emotions. The university students explained various emotions, including happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and surprise, using educational videos to make the material easier for children to understand. Through the videos, the children were encouraged to observe facial expressions, body movements, and examples of behaviors that reflected specific emotions. Throughout the session, the university students also asked simple questions about the expressions shown in the videos, creating two-way interaction during the learning process.
This topic was selected based on observations and information provided by the foundation coordinator, who explained that some of the children still had difficulty expressing their emotions appropriately. This condition was influenced by family environments and peer interactions that were not fully supportive of children's emotional development, particularly in recognizing and communicating their feelings effectively.
As part of the learning evaluation, the university students organized an expression-guessing activity to assess the children's understanding of the material. The children were asked to identify different facial expressions and name the corresponding emotions. In addition, they participated in a matching activity by attaching pictures of behaviors to the appropriate emotional expressions, such as laughing for happiness or crying for sadness.
The evaluation activities were conducted through a play-based learning approach, allowing the children to remain engaged, relaxed, and motivated throughout the lesson. Overall, the teaching activity was carried out successfully, creating an interactive learning environment and receiving positive responses from both the children and the institution. The program effectively helped children recognize and understand emotions and expressions through enjoyable and easy-to-understand learning experiences.
