First Advocacy Program Meeting – Learning Through Fun and Differentiated Educational Activities
The first meeting served as the opening session of the advocacy program, which included group exercise activities, introductions between volunteers and participants, ice-breaking sessions, and learning activities tailored to different educational levels. Kindergarten participants received lessons on number writing and color recognition, while elementary school participants took part in an English ice-breaking activity focused on learning colors in English, followed by literacy and numeracy exercises, particularly multiplication practice.
This program was initiated and facilitated by four students from Group 26, Batch 1: Siti Rahmadhani Rahayu Puji Lestari, Misha Alezia Habibi, Farhana Nur Husein, and Iskarima Aumut Syahidah. The participants consisted of children fostered by Yayasan Alma Karya, ranging from early childhood to elementary school age, who live around Pakis Sidorejo 1 Street, Surabaya.
The first meeting was conducted during the morning session as the opening activity of the three-meeting advocacy program organized by Group 26 of UNESA Batch 1.
The activities took place at Yayasan Alma Karya, Jl. Pakis Sidorejo 1 No. 2, Surabaya, East Java. The learning environment was decorated with children’s artwork, creating a child-friendly and supportive atmosphere. Various drawings and creative works produced by the participants were displayed on the walls as a form of appreciation for their creativity and efforts.
The learning materials were differentiated according to the participants’ educational levels based on their cognitive abilities and learning readiness. This differentiated approach aimed to provide appropriate stimulation according to each child’s developmental stage, ensuring a more effective learning process and minimizing learning gaps among participants.
The program began with a group exercise session to build enthusiasm, create a warm atmosphere, and prepare the children physically before starting the learning activities. Following the exercise, a formal introduction session was held between the UNESA Group 26 students and the children, which was then followed by creative ice-breaking activities to help the participants feel more comfortable and connected.
Afterward, the children were systematically divided into learning groups according to their educational levels:
Kindergarten Group: Focused on motor skill development and basic learning activities, including number-writing practice and color recognition.
Elementary School Group: Participated in an English-themed ice-breaking activity focused on learning colors in English, followed by literacy and numeracy exercises with an emphasis on multiplication skills.
Throughout the learning process, the four university students provided intensive guidance and support to ensure that each child received stimulation appropriate to their cognitive development level. At the end of the session, the participants’ work was displayed on the walls as a tangible form of appreciation for their creativity and accomplishments. The program concluded with a closing prayer and a group photo session as official documentation of the activity.
