Training for Early Childhood Teachers: Creating Songs to Support Engaging Number Concept Instruction
Mathematics is essential for everyone in their daily lives, especially in buying and selling activities. Therefore, teaching mathematics to children from an early age is very important. This prepares children and familiarizes them with various mathematical concepts. Teaching mathematics to children requires knowledge of child development stages and appropriate mathematical content. Introducing mathematics to young children can be done within family and school environments. Teachers in schools need enhanced understanding of suitable mathematical content for children. This can be achieved through training provided by experts.
A training session for early childhood teachers on creating songs to support engaging number concept instruction was held in Temanggung, Central Java, on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Ninety-two early childhood teachers participated in the event. The activities began with an opening ceremony, followed by material presentations, a songwriting workshop, a questionnaire session, and closing remarks. The main speakers for this training were Sri Widayati, M.Pd., who presented on mathematics for early childhood, and Dra. Nurhenti Simatupang, M.Sn., who presented on creating songs for young children.
This training aimed to strengthen teachers' understanding of appropriate mathematical content, particularly number concepts, considering the stages of child development. It is hoped that after this training, teachers will be able to deliver number concept material that is suitable for each child's developmental stage. Additionally, the training also aimed to empower teachers to create simple songs for children that can support the teaching of mathematical concepts, especially number concepts.
