PAUD Introduces “No-Plastic Day” to Promote Environmental Awareness
In an effort to reduce waste and raise environmental awareness, a PAUD in Banyuwangi has declared every Friday as “No-Plastic Day.” On this day, students, teachers, and parents commit to avoiding single-use plastics such as bags, bottles, and wrappers. Instead, they bring reusable containers and eco-friendly materials to school.
Teachers begin each “No-Plastic Day” with storytelling about animals affected by pollution, helping children understand why protecting nature matters. They also hold simple experiments showing how long plastic takes to decompose compared to paper or leaves. These activities make environmental education tangible and meaningful.
Parents are active supporters of the initiative. Many share creative ideas, such as wrapping snacks in banana leaves or using reusable fabric bags. This shared responsibility teaches children that small actions can make a big difference for the planet.
The school also collaborates with local environmental groups to organize clean-up drives and tree-planting events. These experiences help children connect their learning to real-world actions, strengthening a lifelong love for the environment.
Since implementing “No-Plastic Day,” the school has significantly reduced its waste output. Teachers hope that by building awareness early, children will grow into environmentally responsible citizens who respect and protect their surroundings.
