Volunteer Teaching Activity Report: Learning Evaluation through Quizizz at Dharma Putra Swadaya
On Thursday, April 30, 2026, students from Group 23 of the Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Program (PG-PAUD), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), conducted the third and final week of the volunteer teaching program at the Dharma Putra Swadaya Social Unit (DPS), Surabaya. This activity was part of a community service initiative aimed at providing educational support and learning assistance for junior high school students while also enhancing the teaching experience of university volunteers.
The activity was attended by Grade 7 and Grade 8 students and took place from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The session began with a joint prayer, warm greetings, and a short ice-breaking activity to create an enthusiastic and enjoyable learning atmosphere. By the third meeting, students appeared more confident and actively engaged, having become familiar with both the volunteers and the learning environment.
The main focus of this session was a learning evaluation using Quizizz, an interactive digital learning platform. The evaluation was designed to review and assess students’ understanding of the English and Mathematics materials taught during previous meetings. The questions were adapted to the students’ academic levels and presented in a gamified format to encourage participation and maintain learning motivation.
For Grade 7 students, the Quizizz activity reviewed various English and Mathematics topics that had been introduced throughout the volunteer teaching program. The game-based assessment allowed students to demonstrate their understanding while enjoying a competitive and engaging learning experience.
For Grade 8 students, the evaluation specifically focused on Descriptive Text in English and Quartile Deviation in Mathematics. Students completed five multiple-choice questions for each subject using their mobile devices. Each section was allocated ten minutes, followed by a discussion and review session. This approach enabled students to assess their learning progress while reducing the pressure commonly associated with formal examinations.
Throughout the activity, the volunteers assisted students in accessing the Quizizz platform, explained the game procedures, and provided guidance whenever necessary. The interactive nature of the activity created an exciting atmosphere, as students could immediately view their scores and rankings after completing the questions. The participants enthusiastically answered questions, discussed solutions with their peers, and demonstrated strong engagement throughout the evaluation process.
The evaluation results showed positive outcomes. Grade 8 students achieved an average score of 70 in English (Descriptive Text) and 90 in Mathematics (Quartile Deviation), indicating strong performance in Mathematics and satisfactory achievement in English, with opportunities for further improvement. Meanwhile, Grade 7 students actively participated and demonstrated a good understanding of the materials reviewed through the Quizizz activities.
At the end of the session, the volunteers recognized students who actively participated and achieved high scores as a form of encouragement and appreciation. To conclude the program, students and volunteers enjoyed a movie-watching session together, creating a warm and memorable atmosphere while strengthening the bond that had developed throughout the volunteer teaching program.
Overall, the third-week volunteer teaching activity was conducted successfully and achieved its intended objectives. The use of Quizizz provided an effective and enjoyable method of assessment while fostering students’ motivation, confidence, teamwork, and digital literacy skills. At the same time, the university volunteers gained valuable experience in utilizing educational technology, conducting assessments, and managing learning activities in a non-formal educational setting.
This report serves as official documentation of the third-week volunteer teaching activity conducted by Group 23 PG-PAUD UNESA at Dharma Putra Swadaya. It is hoped that the program has provided meaningful educational experiences and positive impacts for both the students and the volunteers involved.
