Volunteer Teaching Activities at Alma Karya Foundation: Interactive Learning Through Creative and Educational Games
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, a volunteer teaching activity was conducted at the Alma Karya Foundation, located in Pakis, Sidorejo, Surabaya. The program was attended by children ranging from early childhood education (PAUD) to elementary school level and was facilitated by students from the Early Childhood Teacher Education Program (PG-PAUD) at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA).
The learning activities began with an ice-breaking session consisting of simple games and songs to create a fun and engaging learning atmosphere. The children enthusiastically followed the instructions given by the university students and actively participated in the activities. Afterward, the facilitators delivered learning materials tailored to the age and abilities of each participant.
During the main session, the children took part in a variety of educational activities, including coloring, counting, drawing, and a fishing game. In this activity, the children first colored fish illustrations, then cut them out and counted the number of fish before using a simple fishing tool to “catch” them. This activity was designed to develop fine motor skills, numeracy abilities, and hand-eye coordination in an enjoyable and interactive way.
In addition, the children were introduced to the concepts of flora and fauna through picture-based learning materials and simple explanations that were easy for them to understand. The university students actively guided and assisted the children throughout the activities while continuously providing encouragement and positive reinforcement to help build their confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
The learning environment remained active, warm, and enjoyable throughout the program. The children showed great excitement and participation until the end of the session. After the activities were completed, the university students held an evaluation meeting with the foundation staff to discuss the implementation of the program and identify ways to further improve future learning activities.
Through this volunteer teaching program, it is hoped that the children will continue to develop their cognitive, motor, social, and emotional skills through interactive, meaningful, and enjoyable learning experiences. The activity also provided valuable opportunities for the university students to apply their educational knowledge and contribute positively to the community.
