Promoting Creativity and Environmental Awareness Through Recycled Craft Activities
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the second week of the volunteer teaching program was successfully conducted. The learning activities were designed to foster creativity, environmental awareness, and fine motor development through engaging hands-on experiences.
The session began with a group prayer to open the learning activities and to create a positive and conducive atmosphere throughout the program.
After the prayer, the learning session officially started. The theme of this meeting focused on the reuse of recyclable materials, encouraging children to understand the importance of reducing waste by transforming used materials into creative and useful crafts. Therefore, the primary materials used in this activity were plastic plates and printed batik pattern templates.
The children were first given the opportunity to choose a batik pattern according to their interests and preferences. This allowed them to express their individuality and become more engaged in the activity.
After selecting their preferred design, the children began coloring the batik patterns using coloring tools provided by the volunteers, such as crayons and markers. They enthusiastically explored different color combinations and expressed their creativity through their artwork.
Once the coloring activity was completed, the children proceeded to attach their finished batik designs onto the plastic plates that had been prepared in advance. Before attaching the artwork, glue was carefully applied to the surface of the plates to ensure that the designs adhered properly and would be more durable.
After successfully attaching the batik patterns, the children were encouraged to further decorate their creations using colorful ribbons. This additional decorating activity enhanced the appearance of the crafts and allowed the children to add their own personal touches.
The next step involved attaching a long ribbon to each plastic plate, transforming the craft into a decorative hanging ornament. This activity enabled the children to create a meaningful artwork that could be displayed at home.
As a form of appreciation for their effort and creativity, each child received up to two star stickers, which were attached to the back of their completed craft projects. The reward system helped motivate the children and made them feel proud of their accomplishments.
After completing all craft activities, the children were given time to rest and relax. Following the break, the session continued with an ice-breaking activity designed to restore their energy and enthusiasm. The children actively participated in fun movements and interactive games, creating a cheerful and lively atmosphere.
The program concluded with a closing prayer before the children returned home.
Overall, the second-week activity was carried out successfully and provided valuable learning experiences for the children. Through the batik craft project using recycled materials, the participants developed their creativity, fine motor skills, concentration, and artistic expression while also learning the importance of environmental responsibility and the creative reuse of everyday materials.
