Kartini Day Celebration Activities at Sanggar Merah Merdeka Lebak: Coloring and Puzzle-Based Learning
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, a learning activity was conducted at Sanggar Merah Merdeka Lebak to commemorate Kartini Day. The event was enthusiastically attended by children from various educational levels, including the Bibit (Early Childhood Education), Akar (Kindergarten), Tunas (Grades 1 and 2), Melati (Grades 3 and 4), and Dahlia (Grades 5 and 6) classes. The activity was facilitated by youth volunteers from Sanggar Merah Merdeka together with students from the Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Program (PG-PAUD) at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA): Firda Ayu Amanda, Alif Miftakhul Jannah, Irma Ayu Nur Affirda, and Chevilla Azra Ayuningtyas.
The activities were designed according to the children's ages and developmental abilities. For the Bibit, Akar, and Tunas classes, the children participated in a coloring activity featuring a picture of Kartini. This activity aimed to develop fine motor skills, introduce color recognition, and provide opportunities for children to express their creativity. Meanwhile, students in the Melati and Dahlia classes worked on assembling a puzzle of Kartini’s picture. This activity helped improve accuracy, problem-solving skills, and teamwork, as it was completed in groups.
The event began with a brief introduction to Kartini as a national heroine who played a significant role in advocating for women's rights and education in Indonesia. The explanation was delivered in simple language so that it could be easily understood by the children. Afterward, the participants started their respective activities according to their class groups. Throughout the session, the facilitators actively guided the children, provided instructions, and assisted those who encountered difficulties.
The atmosphere of the activity was warm, engaging, and enjoyable. The children showed great enthusiasm in completing their tasks, helping one another, and proudly presenting their work. At the end of the activity, a simple presentation session was held, during which several children were invited to showcase their creations in front of their friends. The event concluded with a group photo session as documentation of the celebration.
Through this activity, it is hoped that the children not only gain a better understanding of Kartini’s contributions but also develop their creativity, self-confidence, and ability to collaborate with their peers.
