Fun Learning Through Literacy and Creative Rainbow Foam Activities at Sanggar Alang-Alang Surabaya
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 3:30 PM, a volunteer activity was conducted at Sanggar Alang-Alang Surabaya. The program was attended enthusiastically by the children of the learning center, who participated with great excitement and energy. The activity aimed to provide enjoyable learning experiences while supporting the development of children’s literacy, creativity, and motor skills through activities designed according to the characteristics and needs of early childhood learners.
The program began with an opening session and introductions between the volunteers and the children. This initial stage was intended to build rapport, create a comfortable learning atmosphere, and encourage children’s confidence throughout the activities. Once the children felt more comfortable and engaged, the session continued with a literacy game involving letter arrangement based on picture prompts.
In this activity, the children were asked to observe various pictures and then arrange the provided letters to form words that matched the images shown. The objective of the activity was to introduce letter recognition, enhance early literacy skills, expand vocabulary, and develop children’s thinking and concentration abilities. Throughout the session, the children actively participated and worked together to arrange the letters, receiving guidance from volunteers whenever needed. Some children demonstrated strong letter recognition skills and were able to form words independently.
After completing the literacy activity, the children participated in a creative art project by making rainbow patterns using colorful foam. The activity utilized simple materials such as liquid soap, water, food coloring, straws, and drawing paper. The children were highly excited when they saw the colorful foam being created and eagerly experimented with making rainbow designs on their individual sheets of paper.
Through this creative exploration, the children gained enjoyable hands-on learning experiences while developing creativity, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to follow simple instructions. In addition, the color exploration activity helped children recognize various colors and stimulated their curiosity about the world around them.
Overall, the first volunteer meeting was conducted successfully and smoothly. The children enthusiastically participated in all activities and demonstrated active engagement throughout the learning process. The combination of literacy-based games and creative art activities created a positive and meaningful learning experience that supported both cognitive and motor development in an enjoyable and interactive environment.
