Developing Early Literacy Skills Through Writing Activities at Sanggar Alang-Alang
A volunteer community service activity was conducted at Sanggar Alang-Alang on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, focusing on the development of children's basic literacy skills through writing, tracing, and letter-recognition activities.
During the session, the children completed worksheets prepared by the volunteers. The activities included tracing letters, identifying letters displayed alongside written words, and rewriting shapes and letters that appeared on the worksheets.
From the beginning of the activity, the learning environment was calm and conducive to learning. The children paid close attention to the instructions provided and enthusiastically began working on their tasks with guidance from the volunteers.
The university student volunteers provided direct assistance to children who experienced difficulties holding pencils, recognizing letter shapes, or rewriting letters correctly. This personalized guidance helped the children better understand the instructions and complete their tasks more effectively.
The primary objective of the activity was to help children develop early reading and writing skills. In addition, tracing and rewriting exercises contributed to improving accuracy, concentration, and fine motor development. These activities provided valuable opportunities for children to strengthen foundational literacy skills while enhancing hand-eye coordination.
The learning approach was intentionally designed to be simple, engaging, and enjoyable so that the children would not feel pressured during the learning process. By creating a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, the volunteers encouraged the children to become more confident in completing the assigned tasks.
Overall, the third meeting was successfully carried out and had a positive impact on the children's literacy development. The activity also marked the conclusion of the volunteer program, providing meaningful learning experiences and valuable educational support for the children at Sanggar Alang-Alang.
